Listen to this epic 46 minute jam that Phish busted out at their festival, Magnaball last year. The soundcheck morphs from one groove to another over the 46 minutes – all improvised.
Soundchecks are usually unremarkable, but every once in a while, a band will use the soundcheck to let loose, experiment new ideas and have fun. This was definitely one of those times. Whether it was Phish paying tribute to the legendary soundcheck that the Dead did at Watkins Glen back in ’73 or just Phish being Phish, this jam is not to be missed.
This soundcheck was the opening to their festival and what a way to start. It was pouring during the soundcheck, but still a few hundred souls braved the heavy rain and checked out the soundcheck in person. For those who didn’t, it was broadcast on Phish’s “Bunny” radio station.
While mostly instrumental, you will hear Trey stumping for Bernie Sanders with a “feel the Bern” chant.
