In the 2000s, Peter Shapiro (who produced Fare Thee Well and LOCKN’) co-produced The Jammys. The Jammy Awards ran seven years between 2000 and 2008 and was a Grammy-style award show for jam bands. In addition to recognizing and awarding the best and brightest in the jam band scene, the shows also featured some amazing collaborations.

During the show, Les Claypool took center stage donning a pig mask and an upright bass to play one of the headbangers off of his 2002 album Purple Onion. Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade was replaced by an all-star cast including Mike Gordon, Phil Lesh, Marco Benevento, Joe Russo and Gabby LaLa.

Thanks to Relix for sharing the great archival footage of the momentous collaboration!
