Jimi Hendrix has been gone for 49 years, but his music, particularly his live performances live on and continue to be some of the hottest performances you’ll ever hear.
In my opinion, Jimi reached his peak with the Band of Gypsys at Fillmore East on December 31, 1969 and January 1, 1970. These two shows are among the greatest in his short by prolific career. Armed with two new band members (Buddy Miles and Billy Cox) and some new tunes, Jimi burns the Fillmore down during these two nights.
The performances are so historic, that Jimi Hendrix’s estate is releasing a new 5 CD box set entitled Songs For Groovy Children: The Fillmore East Concerts that featured newly remastered classics from the evening and previously unreleased tracks.
The upcoming November 22 release has hands down one of the best versions of “Foxey Lady” you will ever hear. The 6+ minute version includes plenty of jaw-dropping jams and solos from Jimi.
Thanks to Jimi Hendrix’s YouTube channel for the sneak peak of the upcoming box set.
