Railroad Earth gets categorized as a bluegrass band often, but they are so much more than that. Their lineup boasts musicians that play the piano, saxophone, electric guitar and bouzouki. Yea, I had to google that last one.
Railroad Earth pulled into Port Chester for their final night of the current leg of their winter tour before taking a few weeks in February off. The highly promoted affair at the Capitol Theater was livestreamed. TAUK opened up the evening before Railroad Earth took the stage for two sets plus this Grateful Dead encore.
You’ll hear how Railroad Earth defies categorization with this cover of “Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodleoo.” What starts out sounding like a new-grass cover of the classic Dead tune, ends with a saxophone riff that could play on and on until sunrise.
Thanks to Tim In Jersey for the recording. Check out the full recording if you dig what you hear.
