Jam band pianist extraordinaire Holly Bowling just released a video of her masterful arrangement of one of the all-time classic Grateful Dead songs “Morning Dew.” Holly arranged Dew for the solo piano for her album of Dead tunes Better Left Unsung.
“Morning Dew” is one of those songs that transports you to a different place when you hear the Dead play it. Holly’s version shared here takes me on that same magical journey. There are several goose-bump inducing moments in the arrangement. Holly pours her heart and soul into her arrangements and this version of “Morning Dew” is a perfect example of that.
Holly arranged and released this cover for Alan Cattier in thanks for his support of the 2016 release ‘Better Left Unsung.’ Also, the timing of the release could be a head-nod to one of the greatest Dews the Dead ever played at Barton Hall. Tomorrow mark’s the 40th anniversary of the legendary Grateful Dead show at Cornell University where Jerry and the boys played a once-in-a-lifetime version of “Morning Dew.”
Thanks to Holly for the beautiful rendition and excellent from the top video footage!
