The Southern Soul Assembly made their way to one of the homes of the blues, Chicago on Friday night. The assembly, including Marc Broussard, JJ Grey (of JJ Grey and Mofro), Anders Osborne and Luther Dickinson (of North Mississippi Allstars) graced one of the most historic and beautiful venues in Chi-town, Thalia Hall.

Listen to Southern Soul Assembly Bring Their Acoustic Soul to New Orleans – 3/5/2017 Full Show AUD

The format of the Southern Soul Assembly shows entails the musicians taking their turn leading a different tune. When Luther’s turn came up, he asked for requests and donned his slide for a stripped down electric version of North Mississippi Allstar’s “mean ole wind.”.

In an unexpected twist, Luther got out of his seat and swapped guitars with Anders Osborne mid-song. Luther took his turn with the slide and soloed over Anders on the acoustic. It was a really cool moment that only the Southern Soul Assembly attendees could have witnessed.

Extra points to Anders for wearing his STFU Bob Weir tee!

Thanks to Nunu Zomot for the great front row footage.
