Ginger Baker, one of the founding members on the most legendary power trio of all time, Cream was paid tribute to this evening in London. Baker passed away last October and Eric Clapton paid a proper tribute to his friend and bandmate from both Cream and Blind Faith.
Clapton arranged this once in a lifetime tribute to his dear friend at the Eventim Apollo Hammersmith with an impressive cast of musicians. His band included Paul Carrack, Chris Stainton, Sonny Emory, Steve Gadd, Willie Weeks, Katie Kissoon and Sharon White. The special guests included some of the most iconic rock musicians of all time including Stevie Winwood (Ginger’s bandmate in Blind Faith), Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood and Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters. Other guests included Nile Rodgers, Kofi Baker, Kenney Jones, Henry Spinetti and Will Johns.
Proceeds from the concert went to fund a charity near and dear to the Baker family—Leonard Cheshire.
For the encore, nearly all the special guests including Ronnie Wood came out and joined Clapton for “Crossroads.”
