The Grateful Dead are back with another installment of All the Years Live on YouTube. The latest stop on the long strange trip is the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View from summer 1989.
During the first set, the Dead played “When Push Comes to Shove.” Here is what Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux notes about the performance, “When the Grateful Dead returned to the stage on December 15, 1986, after Jerry’s diabetic coma, the third song they played that night was a brand-new Hunter-Garcia song that was a fun, upbeat, rocking tune called When Push Comes To Shove. Along with Black Muddy River, also debuted that same night, the Dead now had enough new material to head into the studio to start recording In the Dark a month later, in January 1987. The Dead only played When Push Comes To Shove 58 times, with this one being the penultimate live version, going away for good a month later on 7/17/89 at Alpine.”
Thanks to the Grateful Dead for the footage!
