The Grateful Dead are back with another installment of All the Years Live on YouTube. The latest footage comes from the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, CA during the Dead’s spring tour.
Towards the end of the first set, the Dead posted a lengthy “Bird Song” clocking in over 18 minutes. Here is what Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux notes about the performance, “From Jerry’s 1972 debut solo album, Bird Song joined the Dead’s repertoire in 1971, and after slipping out of the song list in September 1973, it rejoined in its acoustic arrangement in September 1980, and electrically a couple of months later. It would remain a large part of the Dead’s first sets for the next 15 years, including this great rendition with Bruce Hornsby.”
Thanks to the Grateful Dead for the footage!
