Aussie rocker, Courtney Barnett brought the heat to the main stage at Mountain Jam yesterday with a dirty, grungy version of the Grateful Dead classic tune, “New Speedway Boogie.” Courtney contributed a recording of New Speedway to the mega 6+ hour Day of the Dead compilation that was recently released.

Courtney’s sound is definitely a different twist on the traditional Dead cover you would hear, but it works. As she mentions at the end of the song, this is the first time that she performed the song live.

It’ll be interesting to see if the artists who contributed to Day of the Dead will follow Courtney’s lead and perform their Dead cover at their concerts. It would be a great way to introduce the music we all love to a whole new audience.
