LOCKN’ finished up their first of three mini-fests down on the farm yesterday. The first weekend featured three days of Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, The Slip and some other sets.

Despite the best intentions, mother nature had other plans for this past weekend. Many of the sets were either postponed or canceled due to bad storms. Luckily, the weather did clear on Sunday for a full day of music. The day kicked off with an all-star jam that included Martin and Medeski, The Slip and Joe Russo’s Almost Dead.

While LOCKN’ wasn’t able to host a full-fledged festival like in year’s past, Pete Shapiro and the organizers were able to pull together three mini-fests on concurrent weekends this August. The first of three weekends on the farm kicked off last night.

This weekend, LOCKN’ superheroes Joe Russo’s Almost Dead are playing three days along with The Slip and a special jam in the evening at Garcia’s Forest featuring John Medeski and Billy Martin. In addition to the Dead sets, JRAD is also playing an extra “JRAD Plays Other Shit” set each of the evenings. Today, JRAD busted out an early Pink Floyd set. The band kicked off the set with a monster “Echoes” followed by “Time,” “Pigs” and back to “Time.”

Watch Trey Anastasio and Tedeschi Trucks Band Cover “Nobody Knows You When You’re Down And Out” at LOCKN

The news broke a couple of weeks back that Trey Anastasio’s set with Tedeschi Trucks Band at LOCKN’ is going to be officially released. TTB’s YouTube channel has teased a couple of tracks since the announcement.

Tedeschi Trucks Band’s Layla Revisited (Live At LOCKN’), is a one-off live recording of the seminal Derek & The Dominos album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs, performed in its entirety with special guest Trey Anastasio. Recorded on August 24, 2019 at the LOCKN’ Festival in Arrington, VA, Layla Revisited captures Tedeschi Trucks Band at their incendiary best, with Anastasio proving the perfect foil to the transcendent musical union of guitarist Derek Trucks and guitarist/vocalist Susan Tedeschi, and frequent TTB collaborator Doyle Bramhall II.

The latest Derek and the Dominos cover to be released is the “Nobody Know’s When You Are Down and Out.”

Watch Joe Russo’s Almost Dead Kick Off Run at LOCKN’ – 10/1/2020 Video

LOCKN’, scheduled for the summer was set to celebrate Phil Lesh’s 80th birthday. COVID pushed the festival back to October and then eventually to 2021. While the annual jam festival has officially been canceled this year, Peter Shapiro has brought a little of that LOCKN’ magic to fans this fall.

Tonight, LOCKN’ superheroes Joe Russo’s Almost Dead kick off a three night run at Infinity Downs, the home of LOCKN’. Instead of playing to thousands of fans on the farm, JRAD is playing to thousands of fans around the world on Relix’s Twitch channel. JRAD will return to Twitch tomorrow for another free show in support of HeadCount. The third night. will be a donate what you can to HeadCount.

Watch Light from LOCKN’ Day 3 – 6/21/2020 Video

Light From LOCKN’ is closing out this evening after three full days of archival LOCKN’ performances and special live appearances. The virtual festival isn’t a replacement for the real festival which was supposed to be this weekend, but rather a ray of light in an otherwise dreary time in the world.

After two action-packed days, Light From LOCKN’ saved some of the best performances for the third day. Keller Williams kicked off the day as he did the previous two days in his home, this time with a playful, yet beautiful version of Jerry Garcia’s “Palm Sunday.” The action continued with Keller’s fan favorite Grateful Gospel.

Other highlights from the day include Phil Lesh and Friends featuring Neal Casal, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Trey Anastasio Band featuring Derek Trucks, Billy and The Kids and so much more. Wow.
