2020 Video

Phil Lesh played a rare public set last week at the backyard of his Terrapin Crossroads venue. The socially distanced affair featured Phil, Stu Allen, Grahame Lesh & Dan Lebowitz.

The short but sweet set included some killer Dead tunes. Good to see Phil back in action!

Listen to the Grateful Dead Debut “Ripple”, “Brokedown Palace”, and “Truckin’” at the Fillmore West on This Day in 1970 – 8/18/1970 AUD

Got the summertime blues? Go on a long, strange tour with me through time. Back by popular demand, we’re extending the We Will Get By Streaming Tour into August. Tune in on YouTube and join the chat as we explore the wonders of summer tours past. We will get by, we will survive!

After over a week hiatus, the We Will Get By Streaming Tour is back tonight with one of the Dead’s most significantly historic shows in their 30 year careers during the summer of 1970.

With the Dead’s legendary album American Beauty to be released on November 1, 1970, the Dead were busy writing and debuting songs in the summer of ’70. Playing at one of their favorite venues for a string of three dates between August 17 and August 19, the Dead debuted some of the most timeless tunes in their catalogue during the second show at the Fillmore West.

On the 18th, the Dead played an acoustic set and an electric set. In the opening set the Dead debuted “Truckin’,” “Ripple,” “Brokedown Palace” and “Operator.” Wow.

While there is some speculation that the Dead debuted a lot of these tunes the night before, only a fragment of a recording of the show exists so no one can know for sure.

If you hopped in a time machine and went on down to the Fillmore West OTD in 1970, you'd find the @GratefulDead debuting four songs – "Brokedown Palace," "Operator," "Ripple" and "Truckin.'" pic.twitter.com/vut1nYH5ho

Listen to Grateful Dead’s ’94 Deer Creek Show – 7/20/1994 Soundboard

Got the summertime blues? Go on a long, strange tour with me through time. Every day in the month of July, we’ll feature a vintage recording from the Dead. Tune in on YouTube and join the chat as we explore the wonders of summer tours past. We will get by, we will survive!

Our next stop on the We Will Get By Streaming Tour is the only place we can go—back to Deer Creek during the summer of 1994. Out of the Dead’s 30 year career, they have only played one day on July 20th.

After one of the more memorable shows at Deer Creek yesterday from the 1990 summer tour, today’s selection is regrettably one of the more forgettable shows. 1994 was not a good year for the Dead and this show is pretty typical. What does stand out is the post-drums section that is features a splendid “Morning Dew.”

As a matter of note, the show does feature a couple of debuts including “Childhood’s End” and a cover of “Mathilda.” Also, the show was plagued by terrible storms, followed by the sun breaking out. The Dead’s second set kicked off with three rain-themed songs followed up “Here Comes Sunshine.”

Set 1
Feel Like A Stranger, Peggy-O, Beat It On Down The Line, High Time, Memphis Blues, Childhood’s End*, Don’t Ease Me In

Set 2
Box Of Rain-> Samba In The Rain-> Looks Like Rain-> Here Comes Sunshine-> Corinna-> Mathilda**-> Drums-> Space-> Uncle John’s Band-> I Need A Miracle-> Morning Dew

Encore
Johnny B. Goode
