Listen to Phil Lesh and Friends Take Coney Island for a Ride – 9/14/2016 Full Show AUD

Phil Lesh and a special line-up of friends took over Coney Island last night for the first of two shows. The cast of friends included some familiar faces like Jackie Greene and Eric Krasno. Karl Denson, who has jammed with Phil recently on the west coast, also joined in on the fun last night. The rhythm brothers from Soulive, Neal and Alan Evans and Jason Crosby rounded out the line-up.

Denson’s contribution on the saxophone and flute give the music a whole new dimension. Jackie Greene and Eric Krasno on dueling guitars make for a great night of Dead music on a beautiful night down on the boardwalk.

Listen to Phil and Friends Blazing Sunday Set with Chris Robinson at LOCKN’ – HD Audio Capture

After having nearly a dozen friends on stage the day before, Phil paired down and got down to business on Sunday. The Chris Robinson Brotherhood joined Phil for the afternoon set with a special appearance from modern-day guitar god Gary Clark Jr.

As a stark contrast to the full, lush sound that the Stringdusters brought the day before, this Phil and Friends set was much grittier and bluesy.

The highlight of the set for me was the blazing “Hard to Handle.” The tune was right in Chris Robinson’s wheelhouse from his Black Crowes days. As I have shared before, I love Chris Robinson singing Dead tunes.

Chris Robinson also gets bonus points for busting out the most badass Jerry shirt I’ve ever seen.

After a blazing run in Boulder last weekend, Dead and Company headed back east for a show last night in Clarkston, Michigan. The band continued to explore new territory and busted out “Big Boss Man” for the first time this tour. The jammy show featured Mayer getting more and more comfortable in his new role with teases strewn throughout his solos.

A couple of the show highlights include a late-set Truckin’ and a second-set Wheel into Dear Prudence.
