It’s Friday and that means that Shakedown Stream is back with another Grateful Dead concert. Much to our chagrin, Shakedown Stream will reportedly become more infrequent than weekly as it has been.
This week’s stream brings us to Brent Mydland’s last tour during the summer of 1990. The Dead rolled into Tinley Park right outside of Chicago to play three nights at the World Amphitheatre, with the run kicking off on 7/21.
The highlight to look out on this one is Brent’s solo during the first set “Friend of the Devil.”

Thanks to the We interrupt our regularly scheduled We Will Get By Streaming Tour to bring you tonight’s Shakedown Stream. But have no fear—the We Will Get By Streaming Tour will air after the Shakedown Stream and feature the Dead’s Soldier Field show from this day in 1994. This week’s show is the first of three at the Shoreline Amphitheater to kick off the 1989 Fall tour. The footage of the show has been unreleased up until now. Highlights of the show include a huge bust-out of “Death Don’t Have No Mercy” which hadn’t been played since the early 70s, a rocking solo version of “Franklin’s Tower” and the always spectacular “Blow Away” with Brent Mydland taking front and center. Set 1: Set 2: Encore: Thanks to the Grateful Dead for the unreleased footage! Got the summertime blues? Go on a long, strange tour with me through time. Every day in the month of July, we’ll feature a vintage recording from the Dead. Tune in on YouTube and join the chat as we explore the wonders of summer tours past. We will get by, we will survive! After a mellow opener for our We Will Get By Streaming Tour, we fast forward to the first of two shows from Oxford, ME in 1988. The Dead always brought their A-game when they headed up to Maine and this was a prime example. After an “Iko Iko” opener, Brent took the lead on “Jack Straw” and showed the deadheads what was in store for the rest of the show. Brent also shined on his signature “Blow Away” later in the set. Set two is a cosmic, beautiful journey that includes “Terrapin Station” a “Morning Dew” that will give you chills. Jerry, who was much older than other people who had taken 43 trips around the sun, had a ragged but glorious voice towards the late 80s and into the 90s. Hearing him belt out “I guess it doesn’t matter anyway” during “Morning Dew” is a highlight whether its a 72 show or an 88 show.
