Watch Joe Russo’s Almost Dead Cover Radiohead’s “The Bends” at Westville Music Bowl

Grateful Dead tribute band Joe Russo’s Almost Dead kicked off the Westville Music Bowl’s second season last night. The outdoor tennis stadium turned music venue in New Haven, CT was home to some of the east coast’s best jam band shows last summer.

JRAD ended their second set with a cover of Radiohead’s “The Bends” into a smokin’ “One More Saturday Night,” because it was Saturday night after all.

Thanks to monihampton for the footage!

Update: Thanks to Costello and McRoberts for the Ultra Mix!

Joe Russo’s Almost Dead hit the legendary Red Rocks before heading back east for a double-bill at LOCKN’ next weekend.

JRAD’s Red Rocks appearance was filled with cover and teases galore. One of the highlights of the evening was Joe Russo and the gang paying their respects to the recently deceased Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin during the encore. Russo sang the lyrics to Franklin’s iconic “Respect” during the Dead’s iconic “Franklin’s Tower.”

JRAD also tucked in a Radiohead cover, “The Bends” in the second set, Zeppelin and Skynyrd teases as well as a “Wilson” chant (Phish) during “Slipknot!”

Instant Classic: Watch JRAD Bust Out Radiohead’s “The Bends” at Brooklyn Bowl – 10/12/2017 Full Show AUD

Joe Russo’s Almost Dead continued their RADtober run at the Brooklyn Bowl last night, kicking off the second half of the six October dates they are scheduled to play in BK. The show also happened to land on JRAD guitarist Scott Metzger’s 40th birthday. Metzger proved that the older you get, the hotter the jams are.

Among the many treats JRAD brought to the Brooklyn Bowl last night, was the most unexpected bust out of a Radiohead cover. “The Bends” off the album with the same name from Radiohead, was the bands second album and released in 1995. JRAD debuted the cover back in October of 2015 and hasn’t played it in the 71 shows since then. The cover came out of the blue from “Help on the Way > Slipknot!” just when everyone was expecting “Franklin’s Tower” or “Shakedown Street.”

The rest of the show was straight fire. From the “Throwing Stones” opener to super raggae infused “Estimated Prophet,” these guys know how to do the Dead.
