Phil Lesh and the Terrapin Family Band did a rare brief west coast stint up north last week. Phil and the Fam did a pair of shows in Portland, OR before landing in Seattle, WA on Sunday.

Phil treated Seattle to an eclectic setlist that included plenty ‘o Dead and covers abound. Among the covers, were two head nods to two Seattle natives—Nirvana and Jimi Hendrix.

In the first set, Phil and his crew jammed on “Wind Cries Mary.” To close out the second set, Jason Crosby took the lead on a surprising “Lithium/Friend of the Devil” mashup. The unmistakable Nirvana riff and chorus was fused with “Friend of the Devils” lyrics for a fun surprise.

Listen to Phil Lesh & Marcus King’s Grooving “West L.A. Fadeaway” at Wanee – 4/21/2018 Full Show AUD

Phil Lesh and the Terrapin Family Band played two headlining sets at Wanee this past weekend. On night two, Phil and Family were joined by a slew of guests including Neal Casal from Chris Robinson Brotherhood and Circles Around the Sun, Marcus King from Marcus King Band and Adam MacDougall from the Black Crowes and Chris Robinson Brotherhood.

Casal was the first guest to join the action in the first set with a sit-in on the Dead classic, “Althea.” After “Shakedown Street,” Marcus King sat in on a funky, groovy “West LA Fadeaway” and lent both his guitar and vocals to the jam. MacDougall came out with the band in the second set for the Dylan classic “Tangled Up in Blue.”

Towards the end of the second set, Phil and Family threw in a couple of Allman Brothers Band teases into “China Cat Sunflower” and “Not Fade Away.”

Listen to Phil Lesh and John Scofield’s Finale at the Cap – 3/16/2018 Full Show AUD

After celebrating with Phil Lesh for his 78th birthday, John Scofield returned to the stage for the Phil and The Terrapin Family Band’s third and final show at the Capitol Theater.

Phil’s third night at the Cap was a little heavier on non-Dead repertoire including The Velvet Underground’s “Sweet Jane,” Bob Dylan’s “Tangled Up in Blue” and the Rolling Stones’ “Tumblin’ Dice.” Grahame Lesh took the lead on his original “Galilee” in the second set.

Plenty of Dead classics like “He’s Gone,” “Bird Song” and “Wharf Rat” made up the lion’s share of the nearly three-hour show.

Listen to Phil Lesh and Friends Shakedown Hawaii on New Years Eve – 12/31/2017 Full Show AUD

Phil Lesh and Friends may have been the last band to ring in the new year in the US. As he did last year, Phil rang in the new year in Hawaii at the Hawaii Theatre in Honolulu.

This year, Phil was joined by a similar cast of friends including Grahame Lesh on guitar and vocals, Ross James on guitar and vocals, Alex Koford on drums and vocals, Jason Crosby on keyboards and Eric Krasno on guitar and vocals.

The three sets including tunes by The Velvet Underground, The Band, Bob Dylan and a whole lot of Grateful Dead. The third set kicked off with the countdown and then broke out into a crazy “Shakedown Street.” What better way to ring in the new year?

Listen to Phil Lesh and Friends’ Star-Studded Outsiders Ball – 11/22/2017 Full Show AUD

All-star MLB pitcher and Deadhead Jake Peavy, teamed up with Phil Lesh, the Terrapin Family Band and a slew of guests for the inaugural Outsiders Ball in Jake’s hometown of Mobile, Alabama. In addition to winning World Series, Jake has also been busy playing guitar, specifically in benefit concerts. Playing with Phil Lesh and raising money for hurricane victims was a dream come true for him.

The guest list for the Outsiders Ball was deep including Eric Krasno, Jennifer Hartswick, Marcus King, George Porter Jr. and Ivan Neville among others. Peavy also sat it on a couple of tunes.

What would a show in Alabama be without an “Alabama Getaway” opener? While Dead and Company was rocking Hartford, CT, Bobby and the boys were supposedly playing “The Other One” at the same time Phil and his crew were playing the it down south.

After playing with just the Terrapin Family Band in the first set, Phil started to welcome all the guests out in the second set, starting with Jake Peavy for “Cold Rain and Snow” and “Bertha.” Luckily for those in attendance, southern guitar slinger and soul singer Marcus King lent his guitar and vocals on a good chunk of the set. The legendary George Porter Jr. and Ivan Neville also sat in for a good chunk of the set.
