In the summer of ’99, Gov’t Mule teamed with Galactic, .moe and String Cheese Incident for one hell of a tour. The tour featured plenty of guest jamming throughout the sets and the final show of the tour in Boston was no exception.
Mule, who in ’99 include Warren Haynes, Matt Abts and Allen Woody, was introduced as one of the best power-trios in the country. Late 90’s Mule is probably my favorite era of the band. Woody’s booming bass comes through crystal clear on this audience recording. Listen to how commanding his bass line is on “Lay Your Burden Down.”
Halfway through the short but jam-packed set, Warren welcomes out members of the String Cheese Incident to jam on The Band’s “I Shall Be Released.” Next up, Warren welcomes members from Galactic up to the stage for a groovin’ “Spanish Moon” cover.
The final song of the set is dedicated to the late Bobby Sheehan—bassist and founding member of Blues Traveler. Bobby has passed away the previous week at the young age of 31. Members of SCI and Galactic helped close the set out with “Soulshine.”
