Watch The Black Crowes Cover Velvet Underground’s “Oh! Sweet Nuthin'” in Camden

The Black Crowes Shake Your Money Maker Anniversary Tour continued yesterday at the BBT Pavilion in Camden, NJ.

In addition to playing the Black Crowes seminal album in it’s entirety, the Crowes also played a few choice cuts and covers including the tour debut of the cover of the Velvet Underground’s hit “Oh! Sweet Nuthin'” from 1970.

Thanks to Jim Powers for the great footage!

Watch Chris Robinson and Friends Jam on Velvet Underground’s “Oh, Sweet Nuthin'”

The Chris Robinson Brother is on the west coast, gearing up for a three night run in San Fransisco to close out 2018. The three night run, which starts tonight was preceded by a gig in Arcata, CA. Arcata is located about five hours from SF via the 101.

This footage of Chris Robinson jamming with a group of buddies including Ross James, appears to either be a late night show or from an off night of touring. The impromptu gig looks to be in a cafe—a far more intimate setting than the traditional theaters that CRB plays.

Among the songs that Chris Robinson and Friends played includes a great version of the Velvet Underground’s classic “Oh, Sweet Nuthin’.”

Thanks to nowiknowuryder for the great front row footage!

First Listen: The Magpie Salute’s Final Show of Under the Bridge Run in London – 4/15/2017 Full Show AUD

The Magpie Salute is the newest incarnation of the Black Crowes, fronted by Rich Robinson and Marc Ford. While their sound and catalogue selection was born from the Crowes, they are definitely their own band. In a recent Rolling Stones article, Robinson revealed that the band is working on new material and will be releasing an album soon.

After their debut in NYC, The Magpie Salute scheduled their debut in Europe with a run of shows in London at Under the Bridge. The fourth and final spectacular show of the run was captured by taper SIRMick.

The recording reveals a band brimming with excitement and possibilities. The setlist is mostly drawn from Robinson’s solo work, Ford’s solo work and the Black Crowe’s catalogue. On the back of these shows in London, Robinson and Ford have plotted a full-blown tour this summer kicking off on the festival circuit in Europe and then heading to a dozen or so dates stateside.

First Listen: The Magpie Salute Performs Black Crowes, Zeppelin and More in Final Show of Gramercy Theatre Run – 1/22/2017 Full Show AUD

The Magpie Salute is a new incarnation of the Black Crowes and Rich Robinson’s Band. The band’s origin can be traced to a recording session that Rich Robinson did over the summer in one of his favorite spots, Applehead Studios in Woodstock, NY. Rich invited former Crowes members Sven Pipien and Marc Ford to join him in the studio along with the late Eddie Harsch.

The recording sessions proved to be more than what anyone had expected. Robinson recalls “It turned out to be a cool, cathartic and inspirational experience for all of us. We had a strong musical connection from that band.”

The Magpie Salute is rounded out by members from Rich Robinson’s former band and an ensemble of vocalists. TMS debuted their new brand of blues rock at the Gramercy Theatre over a four-night run. Much to the surprise of Rich and the rest of the band, all four nights sold out.

These debut shows reveal a band born again, even if the absence of Chris Robinson is missed. It’s a treat to hear Ford and Robinson back together again.

In addition to Black Crowes songs, The Magpie Salute played a number of Rich Robinson tunes, some of Marc Ford’s work, a couple of Zeppelin covers and “Oh! Sweet Nuthin'” by the Velvet Underground.

The Magpie Salute only has one other date on the calendar, a newly announced show in London this April. Here’s hoping for a salute summer tour!
