Melvin Seals and JGB are about halfway through their fall tour that takes them coast to coast. This past weekend Melvin brought his crew to the Stone Pony is Asbury Park, NJ.

In addition to his traditional line-up, Melvin is packing a couple of extra friends on this tour including John Kadlecik and Jennifer Hartswick. Kadlecik joined Melvin and JGB earlier in the summer at LOCKN’.

Listen to Phil Lesh’s Dead Blues in Las Vegas – 5/4/2019 AUD

Phil Lesh and Friends had a rare appearance outside of Terrapin Crossroads this past weekend. Phil and and a super interesting line-up played two sets dubbed ‘Dead Blues’ at the Hard Rock Casino and Hotel.

Phil’s lineup included Junior Mack on guitar and vocals, Danielle Nicole on vocals, Jackie Greene on keyboard, guitar and vocals, Cody Dickinson on drums and vocals, Blind Boys of Alabama and vocals, JD Simo on guitar and vocals, Luther Dickinson on guitar and vocals and John Medeski on keyboards. Whoa.

As the gig’s title would suggest, the show had a bluesy theme and included plenty of blues standard that were staples of the early Grateful Dead such as “King Bee,” “Big Boss Man,” and “Deep Elem Blues.” With such a deep line-up, Phil flexed his muscles and included a Blind Boys of Alabama favorite “Amazing Grace.”

Watch Oteil and Friends’ Highlights from Skull and Roses in Ventura, CA

Oteil Burbridge and Friends headlined the annual Skull and Roses festival in Ventura, California last weekend. Skull and Roses features a full weekend of Grateful Dead music at the Ventura Fairgrounds.

Oteil’s packed a potent line-up on Sunday that included Melvin Seals, John Kadlecik, Scott Metzger, John Morgan Kimock, Weedie Braimah with a special guest appearances from Circles Around the Sun and Chris Robinson Brotherhood lead guitarist Neal Casal and the Rebirth Brass Band from New Orleans.

Oteil’s set included plenty of Dead and Jerry Band tunes including “Scarlet Begonias > Fire on the Mountain” featuring Neal Casal, “That’s What Love Will Make You Do,” “Bird Song,” “Mystery Train,” and “Aiko Aiko.”

An absolutely monster line-up was announced for this year’s The Complete Last Waltz. The Last Waltz, was The Band’s farewell concert held on Thanksgiving Day in 1976 at San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom. The show has been recreated on a nearly annual basis since 2012.

Watch Jerry Garcia Birthday Band’s Second Night in Vail – 8/18/18 Full Show Video

The Jerry Garcia Birthday Band played their second show in Vail last Saturday night. The super-JGB band includes Melvin Seals on keyboards/vocals, Tom Hamilton on guitar/vocals, Oteil Burbridge on bass/vocals, Duane Trucks on drums, Jackie LaBranch on vocals and Gloria Jones on vocals.

While show from the night before focused more on traditional Jerry Garcia Band material, the second night was a mix of JGB and Grateful Dead tunes.
