Watch Gov’t Mule’s “Mule Jam > Afro Blue” at Island Exodus 13

Gov’t Mule’s annual Island Exodus returned for a thirteenth time this past January with one very big difference—no Warren Haynes. Uncle Warren was sick and sidelined for the Jamaica getaway.

When word got out that Warren wasn’t able to fulfill his obligations, plenty of guitar slingers jumped in to keep the Mule train forging ahead including John Scofield and Jackie Greene among others. To open the final night of Island Exodus, the Mule opened with a rollicking “Mule” jam that segued into “Afro Blue” before settling into a great cover of James Brown’s
“Doing it to Death.”

Watch Gov’t Mule Open Fox Theater 30th Anniversary Show with “Grinnin’ in Your Face > Mule”

The Fox Theatre in Boulder, CO celebrated it’s 30th anniversary last night. Warren Haynes and Gov’t Mule was tapped to celebrate the occasion.

Warren opened the show with a few a cappella lines from Son House’s “Grinnin’ in Your Face,” before the rest of the Mule charged hard into their classic tune “Mule.”

After kicking off their three-night run to a capacity crowd at the newly christened Westville Music Bowl on Friday, Gov’t Mule returned for the second night of the run last night.

The Mule brought the goods for the second night in a row and treated New Haven, CT to covers of Radiohead’s “Creep” and the Grateful Dead’s “The Other One” among others.

The night after Hunter passed, Gov’t Mule rolled into the motor city for the a show at the Fillmore. During the second set, Warren Haynes who is no stranger to Hunter’s work, paid tribute to the late singer songwriter in the second set. The Mule treated Detroit to covers of “Dark Star,” “Loser,” and “Sugaree.”

As an added bonus, Larry McCray came out to join Warren and the boys on “That’s What Love Will Make You Do.”

Gov’t Mule’s late summer tour is in full swing. On Sunday, Warren and the boys visited the John Anson Ford Amphitheater in L. A.

In addition to the many Mule tunes they played, Warren went back to his roots for not one, not two, but three Allman Brothers Band tunes. The covers included “Kind of Bird,” “Soulshine” and “Dreams.”
