Trey Anastasio has truly made the most of a truly miserable year for live music. As one final gift (or maybe we’ll get a NYE surprise) Trey has dropped a new album on the Phish YouTube channel.

Following up their sessions at the Barn, Trey and Page McConnell have teamed up for a full album of tunes from the Barn entitled December.

Watch Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler and Phil Collins Jam Over Three Nights at London’s Royal Albert Hall in 1987 – 1/12/1987 Video

Eric Clapton rang in 1987 with a string of dates at home in England, capped off with a six night stand at the Royal Albert Hall in London that would be the first of nine consecutive annual residencies at the famed theater. Clapton’s inaugural home stand was nothing short of spectacular. The guitar legend recruited fellow Englishman Phil Collins and his band to open the shows, and even tabbed Dire Straits frontman Mark Knopfler to join his band on guitar for the final two nights (along with Collins on drums). 

From a touching “Wonderful Tonight,” to a brilliant “Same Old Blues,” before which, during one night, Clapton softly cautions the audience not to leave the theater, the fifteen song set is brimming with highlights. While almost the entire set features his own compositions, Clapton does step into the background for a rousing rendition of Dire Straits’ classic “Money For Nothing,” the only song of the night that Knopfler took the lead on vocals. But the gem in the Royal Albert Hall crown is undoubtedly “Layla.” Despite having just turned 16 years old at the time, the legendary track had lost none of its power. Clapton delivers the ever-passionate lyrics with hair-raising intensity, before cutting loose on his trademark sunburst Fender Stratocaster, “Brownie” playing a blistering solo, setting up keyboardist Greg Phillinganes to bring the the 8-minute epic home with it’s trademark piano coda.

Listen to Phish’s Tweezer-fest at the Met in Philly – 12/3/2019 SBD

Phish continued their fall tour at the Met in Philly last night. The gig was announced after the initial tour was planned and was billed as an Sirius XM special event. Aside from being a free show and broadcast exclusively on Phish’s XM radio station, the show was remarkable because it’s the smallest venue that Phish has played in decades.

Approaching showtime, there were tickets being sold in excess of $1,000. To say this was a hot ticket would be an understatement.

Phish opened the show in true Phish-phasion with an acapella rendition of “Hello My Baby.” After the Phish crooned the final notes of the 100+ year old tune, they took their places and settled into their first of many “Tweezers” of the evening. In all, “Tweezer” made an appearance four times before the night was capped off with a “Tweezer Reprise.”

Watch Trey Anastasio’s Acoustic Tour Finale at Carnegie Hall – 10/30/2019 Video

Trey Anastasio’s acoustic tour came to a brilliant end last night with the second of two shows at the legendary Carnegie Hall in NYC.

As with all the tour stops this October, Trey’s masterful playing and priceless banter carried the night. Thanks to rdeal1999 for capturing the show. While the footage might not be ideal, the sound is fantastic. Carnegie Hall is notoriously ruthless on their “no camera” policy.

Listen to Trey Anastasio Return to Ann Arbor at the Michigan Theater – 10/25/2019 AUD

Trey Anastasio continued his solo acoustic tour last night with one last show in the midwest before heading south for a show in Nashville and then a pair at the legendary Carnegie Hall in NYC to close out the tour.

No stranger to Ann Arbor, Trey reminisced during the show about past performances in that very theater. As with all the solo acoustic shows, Trey’s banter is one of the many reasons to go to the show.

In addition to plenty of solo material and Phish tunes, Trey debuted “If Again” which had only been previously performed at Trey’s Ghosts of the Forest tour earlier this year.
