Watch Trey Anastasio and My Morning Jacket Crush “Mahgeetah” in Mexico

Trey Anastasio got to Mexico early to sit in with Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds, raged for four nights with Phish and then stuck around to sit in with My Morning Jacket this week. MMJ made their annual pilgrimage to Cancun for One Big Holiday and welcomed Trey on night two.

Trey joined MMJ for their encore including “Rocket Man,” “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking?” and an awesome “Mahgeetah.”

Watch My Morning Jacket Reunite at Red Rocks in 2019 – 8/2/2019 Video

As part of nugs.net ongoing effort to provide live music during the COVID-19 shutdown, they have released a gem from Red Rocks last summer. My Morning Jacket, who has gone on a brief hiatus in 2018, returned with a pair of shows at the legendary Red Rocks amphitheater in August of last year.

This show and the one the next evening showed that MMJ hadn’t missed a beat. At the end of a massive 23 song concert, My Morning Jacket front man Jim James promised Red Rocks no repeats the following evening and delivered on the promise.

My personal favorite MMJ tune “Dondante” was played late in the set and the band did not disappoint. Fast forward to 1:30:11 for the simply stunning performance.

Listen to My Morning Jacket Honor Gregg Allman at the Peach Festival – 8/11/2017 Full Show AUD

My Morning Jacket had a bust-out show at Lockn’ Festival last year—in fact it was the 2016 JamBuzzers show of the year. My Morning Jacket has been pumping out amazing music for years, but last year was the jam band scene’s first real taste of what MMJ has to offer.

On tour and on the festival circuit again this summer, My Morning Jacket was the headliner for Friday night at the Peach Festival. The Peach Festival is in it’s 6th year and was billed back in 2012 as the first ever “Allman Brothers inspired festival.” Jim James and My Morning Jacket didn’t miss the opportunity to pay homage to our recently fallen brothers, Butch Trucks and Gregg Allman.

Tucked into the middle of their 17-song set was a pair of covers—the first of Bob Dylan’s “Blowin’ in the Wind” and the second of the Allman Brothers’ tune “Melissa.” The classic ABB tune was one of the first tunes Gregg wrote, although it wasn’t released until their seminole 1972 album Eat a Peach. Jim James and MMJ’s brand of rock was a perfect vehicle for “Melissa.” All in all, a perfect tribute.
