Watch Joe Russo’s Almost Dead’s Pink Floyd Set at LOCKN’

While LOCKN’ wasn’t able to host a full-fledged festival like in year’s past, Pete Shapiro and the organizers were able to pull together three mini-fests on concurrent weekends this August. The first of three weekends on the farm kicked off last night.

This weekend, LOCKN’ superheroes Joe Russo’s Almost Dead are playing three days along with The Slip and a special jam in the evening at Garcia’s Forest featuring John Medeski and Billy Martin. In addition to the Dead sets, JRAD is also playing an extra “JRAD Plays Other Shit” set each of the evenings. Today, JRAD busted out an early Pink Floyd set. The band kicked off the set with a monster “Echoes” followed by “Time,” “Pigs” and back to “Time.”

Pro footage: Watch David Gilmour and David Bowie’s “Comfortably Numb” at Royal Albert Hall

David Gilmour, lead guitarist for Pink Floyd, released A LOT of footage from his famous 2006 On an Island Tour. The three night run at Royal Albert Hall at the end of May was recording and released as Remember That Night on DVD and Blu-Ray.

David Gilmour has some unlikely bedfellows join him for collaborations including David Crosby, Grahame Nash and David Bowie among others. Bowie performs on the last two tracks of the film including the Pink Floyd classic “Comfortably Numb.” Bowie’s unmistakable vocals are an interesting ingredient in the nearly perfect song.

Gilmour released a slew of footage from the film including an epic 22 minute version of my favorite Floyd tune, “Echoes.”

Listen to Gov’t Mule, Jim James and More Rock Pink Floyd Sets at Christmas Jam – 12/9/2018 Full Show AUD

Warren Haynes’ has assembled and launched his annual Christmas Jam for the 30th time this weekend. The jam band institution has been raising funds for Habitat for Humanity for the last 20 years and has transformed Asheville for one weekend every December. This year, there are two days of Christmas Jam spanning a half dozen venues with both day and evening events. While Christmas Jam officially started last night, the party started on Thursday night with the pre-Christmas Jam.

The main event on Friday night was Gov’t Mule’s Dark Side of the Mule—a full show of the Mule covering Pink Floyd. Warren and the Mule have delivered Dark Side of the Mule throughout the summer and fall, but tonight was special with the addition of two special guests (among others.) Captain Ron Holloway added firepower throughout the show on the sax and My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James joined Warren for a cover of “Us and Them” that will give you goosebumps.

Gov’t Mule continued their massive tour this summer and fall with a monster show at Red Rocks last night. The Mule reprised their Dark Side of the Mule for one of their three sets for the final time this summer.

Gov’t Mule, the Avett Brothers and Magpie Salute pulled into Mansfield, MA to perform one of their limited ‘Dark Side of the Mule’ tour dates this past weekend. The day before, the Mule treated NJ to some killer renditions of Floyd tunes.

As they did the night before, the Mule kicked off the set with a couple of originals to warm up the crowd before diving into the Floyd catalogue. The first Floyd cover of the night was the short, but sweet “Pigs on the Wing (Part 2).” Warren and company didn’t waste anytime getting into the good stuff—the next tune was a 13+ minute “Shine on You, Crazy Diamond” featuring Ron Holloway on the sax.

Other guests throughout the night included the Avett Brothers on “Time” and Marc Ford and John Hogg on “The Nile Song.”

While the setlist was similar to the night before, the Mule threw in some different tunes like “Comfortable Numb” and “Echoes (Part 2).” And what better way to close out a night of Pink Floyd music than with Warren leading Great Woods in “Wish You Were Here” on the 12-string guitar?
