Trey Anastasio, lead singer and guitarist for Phish embarked on a new project this spring. Ghosts of the Forest marks Trey’s first new project in over a decade. An album of new music from the band is dropping on April 12th and despite no one hearing any of the material, the eight shows on this spring tour sold out.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Trey explained how he wrote the album and assembled the band in memory of his close friend Chris Cottrell who passed of cancer last year. The band is assembled of close friends including Phish drummer Jon Fishman and bassist Tony Markellis, keyboardist Ray Paczkowski and vocalist Jennifer Hartswick (all of whom have played in the Trey Anastasio Band) and singer Celisse Henderson (who sang with Phish during their 2016 Halloween Ziggy Stardust set).
Ghosts of the Forest debut was at The State Theater in Portland, ME. Trey and his new band treated Portland to one brilliant stream of new music last night. As all the songs are new, sorry for the spotty setlist.
