Billy the Kids played for the second time at Red Rocks in as many nights on July 13th. The two night stand was a follow up to Billy Kreutzmann’s birthday celebration in Hawaii earlier in the spring.

Billy and the Kids along with Billy Strings delivered another monster show on night two. The two sets were loaded with Dead tunes and choice covers like “Dear Mr. Fantasy,” and “Dear Prudence.”

Home for the Holidays, a two night celebration of Jerry Garcia kicked off on Friday night at the Capitol Theater. The two nights featured a super-charged version of the Jerry Garcia Band including Oteil Burbridge on bass and vocals, Tom Hamilton on guitar and vocals,Melvin Seals on keyboards, B3 organ, and vocals, Duane Trucks on drums, Jacklyn LaBranch on vocals and Lady Chi on vocals.

The first night at the Cap featured Melvin and the all-star cast jamming on Jerry and Dead tunes over two jam-packed sets. The tribute also featured some common JGB covers like the Beatles’ “Dear Prudence,” Dylan’s “Tangled Up in Blue” and “Knockin’ on Heavens Door.” There was also a cover of the more modern tune from Father John Misty — “Only Son of a Ladiesman” from 2012.

Dead and Company’s tour continued this week in upstate NY at the beautiful Saratoga Arts Performing Arts Center. Dead and Co. just played one night at SPAC before heading down to Camden for a show tonight.

There haven’t been a lot of recordings from this Dead & Co tour to share, but this tour has been nothing short of excellent. With each tour, the band continues to grow and explore new territory.

After the opening “Feel Like a Stranger,” Dead & Co jumped into “Hell in a Bucket.” A little bit of trivia—the first “Hell in a Bucket” on the East Coast happened on 6/18/1983 at SPAC.

Bobby and the boys delivered a memorable second set with a killer “Shakedown Street,” “Wharf Rat,” and a head nod to Paul McCartney’s birthday with “Dear Prudence.”

In the ashes of the Wanee Festival, the inaugural Suwannee Rising blessed the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park & Campground in Live Oak, FL last weekend. The festival spanned Thursday to Saturday and was headlined by Moe., Lettuce and Oteil Burbridge and Friends.

Oteil’s lineup for Suwannee Rising’s Friday night, headlining spot included John Kimock (Mike Gordon) on drums, Jeff Chimenti (Dead & Company) on keys, Scott Metzger (Joe Russo’s Almost Dead) and Neal Casal (Chris Robinson Brotherhood, Circles Around The Sun) on guitar, and Lamar Williams Jr.

With one foot in the Allman Brothers Band camp and the other in the Grateful Dead camp, Oteil masterfully spun covers of both legendary bands during his set including “Blue Sky > Franklin’s Tower” and epic 17-minute “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed.” Oteil and Friends also jammed hard on The Beatles’ “Dear Prudence” during the set.

Bob Weir and Wolf Bros are marching across the US on their second tour. Earlier this week, Weir, Was and Lane landed in Detroit, MI at the Fillmore.

For most of the tour, the Bobby and the Wolf Bros have been sticking to the trio format. In Detroit, Weir welcomed Blue Note saxophonist and Don Was bandmate Dave McMurray to the stage for the last song of the first set including —”Bird Song” and then in the second set for “Let It Grow,” “Eyes of the World,” “Standing on Shaky Ground” and “Lovelight.”

In addition to the Dead and originals, Weir also covered Dylan and The Beatles tunes including “Maggie’s Farm” and “Dear Prudence” and Tom Petty’s “Breakdown” for the encore.
