Watch Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Rock LOCKN 2014 – 9/16/2014 Video

Nearly a month ago, Tom Petty’s YouTube channel released Petty’s full performance at LOCKN in 2014. The rock and roll legend headlined LOCKN’s second annual festival along with Furthur and the Allman Brothers Band. Not a bad lineup!

The set lists reads as a greatest hit album and Petty and the Heartbreakers brought their A-game for the performance. Petty would tragically die just three short years later of an accidental overdose and leave us way too soon.

Front Row: Watch Lukas Nelson’s Amazing “Sympathy for the Devil” in Chicago

After playing at Farm Aid and backing Neil Young, Lukas Nelson and the Promise of the Real hit the road again. At the end of September, Nelson made a stop at Thalia Hall in Chicago.

Among his originals, Lukas also jammed on several covers including Tom Petty’s “American Girl” and Paul Simon’s “Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes.” None was more impressive though than Nelson shredding through the Rolling Stone’s “Sympathy for the Devil” with an “Amazing Grace” outro.

Lukas Nelson and the Promise of the Real have a handful of dates in October before Nelson meets up with Warren Haynes and company for a stretch of The Last Waltz gigs in October.

Lukas Nelson and his band, the Promise of the Real are out on the road in support of their forthcoming album Turn Off the News (and Build a Garden). The album drops on June 14th and includes a slew of guests including Sheryl Crow, Willie Nelson and Neil Young.

At their tour stop in Kansas City, MO at the Knuckleheads Saloon, Nelson and POTR played tunes off the new album including the title track, older originals and a good variety of covers. Lukas’ choice cuts included Neil Young’s “Powderfinger,” Paul Simon’s “Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes,” Eric Clapton’s “After Midnight,” and Tom Petty’s “American Girl.”

Listen to the All-Star Tribute to Tom Petty at the Brooklyn Bowl – 4/17/2018 Full Show SBD

Brooklyn Bowl hosted one hell of a tribute to the late Tom Petty this past week. The show was billed as “Relix Presents: Brooklyn Won’t Back Down Tribute to Tom Petty featuring members of the Terrapin Family Band and Midnight North plus special guests” and they really meant “plus special guests.”

With Terrapin Family Band / Midnight North making up the house band, a revolving cast of who’s who in the jam scene joined in on a 23-song best of Tom Petty show. Some of the many guests included Jackie Greene, Eric Krasno, Leslie Mendelson and Tash Neal.

While the show didn’t feature musicians that are flashy headliners, it featured artists who’s playing ability is second to none. The show was another great tribute to Petty and an example of his enduring impact on the next generations of musicians in the scene today.

Watch Blackberry Smoke and Lukas Nelson Destroy “American Girl” in Kentucky

Blackberry Smoke and Lukas Nelson and the Promise of the Real are making their way through Appalachia for a handful of dates. Over the weekend, Smoke rolled into Glasgow, Kentucky.

After a massive 19 song show, Blackberry Smoke came back out for an encore and invited opening act Lukas Nelson and the Promise of the Real to join them. As with so many bands over the last couple of months, Smoke and Nelson treated Kentucky to a tribute to Tom Petty. They proceeded to unleash a blistering version of Petty’s classic, “American Girl.” Starr and Nelson on lead guitar quite the pair.
