Phil Lesh turns 80 years young today—happy birthday, Phil! To celebrate, I thought I would share Phil’s first Phil Lesh and Friends Show. While some may debate whether this is the “official” first Phil and Friends show, it’s a great show and fitting to share on Phil’s birthday.
In the fall of 1994, Phil gathered a group of friends to play a show at the Berkeley Community Theatre just a few days before the Grateful Dead’s 1994 fall tour. The acoustic show included a few familiar faces including Jerry Garcia on guitar and vocals, Bob Weir on guitar and vocals, and Vince Welnick on keyboards and vocals.
The short acoustic set was a lot of fun and included a lot of rarities. Check out the absolutely stunning “Throwing Stones” to end the set.
