Post-Primus Les Claypool is a strange and wonderful experience. One of the most interesting and in my opinion, kickass things he did was the double-live album with his band Les Claypool’s Flying Frog Brigade.
The Frog Brigade played at the Great American Music Hall in October of 2001 for two sets. The first was released as Live Frogs Set 1 and included originals and an epic version of Pink Floyd’s Shine on You Crazy Diamond. Set 1 was a huge success and won Best Live Album award at the Second Annual Jammy Awards show in 2001.
At the end of the first set, Claypool says the next set will include “more Pink Floyd than any human being should ever withstand.” For the second set and second commercial release, Live Frogs Set 2, Claypool covers Pink Floyd’s “Animals” in it’s entirety. Claypool’s deep, brooding bass, Jeff Chimenti’s keyboards and Skerik’s soaring Saxophone make for an awesome interpretation of the classic Pink Floyd concept album.
