Up and coming jam act Goose was recently featured as one of the supporting acts with Dead and Company at Playing in the Sand last week. Goose, the quartet hailing from Norwalk, CT includes Rick Mitarotonda on vocals and guitar, Peter Anspach on vocals and keyboards/guitar, Trevor Bass on bass, and Ben Atkind on drums.
Goose sums up their vibe best on their website – “Goose could be likened to a keg party in the woods on a summer night with all of your closest friends.” Count me in!
On the 18th, Goose jammed late in the warm Mexico evening, performing one of their two late night sets of the extended weekend. After Dead & Co’s Saturday night set, Goose jammed on a ton of originals and some great covers including the Talking Heads’ “Crosseyed and Painless,” “Wild Night,” by Van Morrison, The Band’s “Don’t Do It” and the obligatory paradise song—Rupert Holmes’ “Escape.” For the encore, Goose treated Mexico to The Mama and Papa’s tune “My and My Uncle,” which was made famous by Bob Weir and the rest of the Grateful Dead.
