There has been an outpouring of love and emotion this week after learning of the death of Butch Trucks. Musicians have taken to social media and the stage to show their respect and pay tribute to the late, great Allman Brothers founding drummer.
Umphrey’s McGee recently embarked on their massive winter/spring tour and learned of the passing of Trucks during their tour stop in New Haven. With Jake Cinninger sidelined for with the flu, UM keyboardist Joel Cummins took center stage for the tribute to Butch.
After two jam-packed sets, including this awesome dub version of Pink Floyd’s “Breathe,” Joel Cummins came out by himself for the first song of the encore.
Cummins took to the keyboards and performed an emotionally charged “Jessica” to an ecstatic crowd. Joel, enjoying the moment, looks up and beams at the crowd halfway through the song. What a cool moment.
Thanks to mk devo for the awesome 4k footage of the song!
