A year ago on this day, Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead delivered Cardinal Stadium one of the best renditions of “Standing on the Moon” ever. The solemn tune off Built to Last is one of the more sobering songs the Dead played in their last years.
As one YouTube commenter remarked “Only Jerry could make three chords over and over again so beautiful.” Jerry’s goose-bump inducing solo starts at 7:30.

This was one of Brent’s last concerts. He died tragically 20 days later on July 26th of a speedball overdose.
