This video is oozing all sorts of cool, that I don’t know where to start. First of all, James Brown intros is one for the ages:
“This man will make your liver quiver. This man will make your bladder splatter. This man will freeze your knees. If you will, let’s all welcome the world’s godfather of soul, soul brother #1′ James Brown!”
Next JB’s outfit is something that only JB could wear. But most impressive, are his crazy dance moves.
The performance was part of Zaire 74, a three day festival in Kinshasa, Zaire (now Democratic Republic of the Congo) that included B.B. King, Bill Withers and dozens of other artists. The festival was organized by famous fight promoter, Don King and was shrouded in controversy. The festival was attended by more than 80,000 people!
Fun fact: Muhammad Ali and George Foreman fought in this same arena 6 weeks later. Ali regained the heavyweight title when he knocked Foreman out in the 8th round.
