U2 is finishing up a few tour stops in the US this summer before heading across the pond for an extensive summer and fall tour in Europe. Bono, U2’s lead singer, is arguably one of the most politically active musicians in rock today and took the opportunity in the Newark, NJ show to speak out in defense of journalists.
Bono went on to dedicate one of U2’s best tunes, “One” to the murdered journalists of the Capital Gazette in Annapolis, MD. The day before U2’s Newark show, five newspaper employees at the Capital Gazette were killed in a mass shooting: journalists Rob Hiaasen, Wendi Winters, Gerald Fischman, and John McNamara, and sales assistant Rebecca Smith.
Thanks to Larry Rulz Too for the great footage!
