Instant Classic: Listen to Umphrey’s McGee & Greensky Bluegrass Slay Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs” in Asheville – 2/17/2017 Full Show AUD

Start the video from the beginning to listen to the entire show.

Umphrey’s McGee is back in Ashville, NC for the second annual Blue Ridge Rockway with newgrass all-stars Greensky Bluegrass. UM kicked off night one of a three night-run in Asheville last night. The first two shows of the run are at the Civic Center, while the third night is a club show.

Halfway through the second set, UM invited out Paul Hoffman and Anders Beck from Greensky Bluegrass to join in on the Black Sabbath classic, “War Pigs.” Hoffman lent his vocals while Beck played a mean dobro on the sit-in. UM digs into “Black Sabbath” before Hoffman and Beck join in.

Front Row: Watch Warren Haynes Cover “And It Stoned Me” Solo at Christmas Jam

Warren Haynes, the host of the 28th Annual Christmas Jam, kicked off the evening with a couple of solo tunes. Well, actually Holly Bowling took the opening slot, but Warren officially welcomed everyone with his set.

After “The Real Thing,” Uncle Warren crooned on one of his favorite tunes, Van Morrison’s “And It Stoned Me.” Warren has performed this tune dozens, if not hundreds of times and takes some liberties with the ending of the song.

A huge thanks to Tom Libera for the great front row footage. Check out his channel for more footage from Christmas Jam.

Watch Gov’t Mule & Friends Close out Christmas Jam with a Monster “Dreams/MountainJam”

Gov’t Mule and Friends capped off an epic Christmas Jam 2016 with an awesome Allman Brothers tribute. Christmas Jam, hosted annual by Warren Haynes, is a fundraiser for Habitat Humanity. It also promises to be one of the best concerts of the year, full of surprise sit-ins and once in a lifetime collaborations, such as George Porter Jr., Bob Weir, Eric Krasno and more performing Sugaree.

To give you an idea of the magnitutde of the event, here is the stage timing for the entire evening, It’s a lot of music.

Mule ended their set with an Allman Brothers Band tribute. “Dreams > Mountain Jam > Drums > Mountain Jam” clocked in at 25 minutes and put the final end time of Christmas Jam 2016 at 2:57 AM. To give the tunes that true Allman Brothers sound, Mule has a little help from some friends including Paul Riddle on drums, Duane Trucks on drums, Count M’Butu on percussion and Branford Marsalis on the sax.

A huge thanks to rohbear1 for the awesome HQ footage. Check out his channel for more tunes from Christmas Jam.

Watch Bob Weir & Friends Perform a Gorgeous “Eyes Of The World” at Christmas Jam

Even though Gov’t Mule was the last set of the evening, Bob Weir’s set was probably the most anticipated of the evening. And it did not disappoint.

Bobby started off with a few acoustic tunes as he did every stop of his campfire tour this fall and then brought some friends out for some Dead tunes. The highlight of the set was this beautiful “Eyes of the World.” The addition of Holly Bowling on keys and Branford Marsalis pushed it to a whole new level.

Holly was all over the place on Saturday night. She played her own set, sat in with Bobby and played interludes in between sets. Known for her Phish piano covers, Holly’s latest project has her exploring the music of the Grateful Dead. Look for her to be a part of many other Dead collaborations in the future.

Thanks to rohbear1 for the excellent footage. He also snagged an incredible “Dreams > Mountain Jam > Drums > Mountain Jam” to close out the evening that is required viewing.
