Grateful Dead’s official last shows, dubbed Fare Thee Well might have been well over a year ago, but they won’t soon be forgotten. Especially when new footage like this keeps popping up.
The legendary Lazy Lightning was on hand to capture the historic run at Soldier Field in glorious 4k. For the “Help-Slip-Frank” that the boys played at the July 3rd show, LL was focused on Trey for nearly the entire 21 minutes. Towards the end of “Franklin’s Tower” the camera pans out to the entire band, but this is really for the Trey fans.
Some critics say that Trey was limited in his role and his playing was reserved. Other’s say he knocked it out the park, especially given the circumstances. I personally am in the second camp.
