Watch Dave Matthews’ Brilliant Tiny Desk Concert

Dave Matthews took a moment (well, several moments) from his summer tour to sit down with NPR’s Tiny Desk team to perform a handful of songs and share plenty of banter. NPR reported that Dave’s Tiny Desk concert was one of the longest sets they have ever had and that the banter alone would fill a Tiny Desk episode.

Dave kicked off the concert with his delicate hit from DMB’s new album, “Samurai Cop (Oh Joy Begin).” Dave shared another track from Come Tomorrow, “Here on Out” before diving deeper into his catalogue with 1998’s “Don’t Drink the Water,” 2012’s “Mercy” and finally 2003’s “So Damn Lucky.”

Dave Matthews Band continued their tour this past weekend on the East Coast, in Camden, NJ. The tour is their first without violinist Boyd Tinsley and is in support of their first studio album since 2012, titled Come Tomorrow. Come Tomorrow was released earlier in June and hit number #1 on the charts, just like the many DMB albums that have come before it.

DMB’s Camden show on Saturday was streamed for free specifically in celebration of their new album and played plenty of new tunes from Come Tomorrow including “Samurai Cop,” “Come Tomorrow,” and “Come On Come On.”

The new songs sound great and so do the DMB classics!

Dave Matthews Band continued their first post-Boyd Tinsley tour in Atlanta last night. DMB has a handful of dates down south before heading north. With Subtropical Storm Alberto looming in the Gulf of Mexico, tonight’s show in Orange Beach, AL has been postponed.

The real treat of the show was Widespread Panic lead guitarist, Jimmy Herring’s surprise sit in towards the end of the set. Herring came out for the DMB classics “Satellite” and “#41.” Herring shines on both tracks, but really busts out on “#41.”

Watch Dave Matthews Band’s Show in Dallas – 5/19/2018 Full Show Video

Amid controversy and down a fiddle player, Dave Matthews Band has kicked off their Summer 2018 tour that will take them all over the US and to Canada for a few dates as well.

While Boyd’s presence on stage is definitely missed, DMB isn’t ready to fly the white flag. Not by a long shot. Not only is DMB embarking on the largest tour they have had in years, but they are also releasing a new album in June.

Dave’s second tour date landed them in Dallas at the Dos Equis Pavilion. The setlist spanned their 27-year history with plenty of old-school DMB for the seasoned fans.

Listen to Robert Randolph Join Dave Matthews Band for Pre-Super Bowl Show – 2/3/2018 Full Show AUD

Dave Matthews Band came out of hibernation for their first show of 2018. Their gig was across the river from and the night before the Super Bowl in St. Paul. Aside from being during Super Bowl week, the show was notable as this is the first without longtime violinist Boyd Tinsley who announced the night before the show that he was taking a break from touring.

This was DMB’s first show since their appearance at Concert for Charlottesville and second since September of 2016.

To fill in the void left by Boyd, Tim Reynolds and the other band members stepped up their game to fill the missing sections of songs. Taper Mike Peters commented on the show

“The violin is absolutely missed, but you have a world class musician in Jeff Coffin, and a guy who is magic with guitar in Tim Reynolds who did a nice job filling Boyd’s parts.

It was also refreshing to hear Dave actually playing guitar again, outside of the parts that he has to play. There were times during #41 that I heard him playing, and in recent years he would be just sitting back letting the others take solos.”

In addition to all the other members stepping up their game to cover for Boyd, Dave got a little help on “Jimi Thing” from pedal steel guitarist Robert Randolph. Other highlights include a tribute to Tom Petty with a cover of “Runnin’ Down a Dream” and a nod to Prince during Jimi Thing with a “Sexy M.F.” tease.

DMB is gearing up for a big 2018 including a new album and their first tour since 2016.
