Watch Bernie Worrell and Michael Hampton Jam with 420 Funk Mob on “Maggot Brain”

Today’s jam is a throw back to the late 90s from an off-shoot of Parliament Funkadelic. 420 Funk Mob is Funkadelic front man Mike Clipadelic Payne’s solo project. He describes it 420 Funk Mob as “one of the most versatile jam bands around, a Family Stone-meets-The-Dead vehicle that frees your mind.” I’m down!

In 1997, 420 Funk Mob teamed up with Funkadelic alumni Bernie Worrell & Michael Hampton in New York. Among the tunes they played was a spaced out rendition of the Parliament classic “Maggot Brain.” Hampton and Worrell weave some magic together on the epic tune.

Watch Gov’t Mule Open Island Exodus 11 with Dub Style “Maggot Brain”

Gov’t Mule made their yearly pilgrimage to Jewel Paradise Cove in Runaway Bay, Jamaica this week. Island Exodus officially kicked off on the 19th and runs through the 23rd. This year, the Mule is joined by some familiar faces including Ron Holloway, the North Mississippi Allstars, Hot Tuna and more.

On the opening night, Warren and Co did not disappoint. Mule opened with an animals themed set that started with Pink Floyd’s “Pigs on the Wing” to the Mule’s rendition of the Al Green classic “I’m a Ram.”

In the second set, Warren welcomed Captain Ron Holloway to the stage to sit in on a pair of tunes. RoHo and the Mule jammed first on the Gov’t Mule classic “Trane” before launching into a dub style cover of Funkadelic’s “Maggot Brain.”

Watch George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic Lay Down a Massive “Maggot Brain” in Hawaii

Rock and Roll Hall of Famers George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic are traveling the globe for a farewell tour. Billed as the first and only appearances at the Blue Note in Hawaii, Clinton is performing a four night stand in Honolulu.

Last night Clinton and Funkadelic treated Honolulu to the classics like “Cosmic Slop,” “Mothership Connection / Swing Down,” and “Maggot Brain.”

Watch Parliament Funkadelic’s Magical “Maggot Brain” in Tokyo

Japan’s massive Summer Sonic festival invaded Tokyo and Osaka this past weekend. The two day festival spanning both cities included Beck, Nine Inch Nails, Chance the Rapper and dozens of other artists across nine stages. Among the eclectic line-up was funk legend George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic.

Their set at Summer Sonic in Tokyo was on the Beach Stage, latter in the evening and was accompanied by a fireworks show. Clinton and the rest of Funkadelic pushed the pause button on the funk and treated Tokyo to one of the most epic guitar ballads in rock history, “Maggot Brain.”
