Watch Bob Marley’s Legendary Show at the Rainbow Theatre in London – 6/4/1977 Video

The Bob Marley estate has joined the hordes of musicians releasing archival streams in support of COVID related charities and causes. The late reggae legend’s YouTube page released Marley and the Wailer’s concert at the Rainbow Theatre in London from 1977.

At the end of the Exodus tour, Bob Marley landed in London for seven shows. The June 5th and 6th concerts were canceled due to a toe-injury that Bob suffered while playing soccer. This show from June 4th ended up being his last of the tour.

The concert included hit, after hit, after hit. From the well-known Marley classics like “I Shot the Sheriff” and “No Woman, No Cry” to some of my favorite Marley tunes like “Trenchtown Rock” and “Them Belly Full.” The show was later released as a live VHS/DVD.

First Listen: Vintage Derek Trucks Band in Asheville – 1/24/2000 SBD

It’s hard to believe that Derek Trucks is only 39 years old. The slide guitar prodigy has been professionally performing for nearly the last 30 years.

One of his first and longest bands was the Derek Trucks Band. The DTB laid the foundation in many ways for the Tedeschi Trucks Band. Formed in 1994, Derek recorded and toured with them on and off again until 2010 when Tedeschi Trucks Band was formed.

Recently, taper Gordon Wilson posted an uncirculated soundboard recording from the Stella Blue Vault (aka a cardboard box of DATs) of Derek Trucks Band from 2000. The crisp, soundboard recording shows DTB in top form with two sets of originals and a few covers like the Meters’ “Cissy Strut” and Bob Marley’s “Lively Up Yourself.”

Derek’s wife and future band mate, Susan Tedeschi joined DTB for the “Feel So Bad” encore.

Listen to Gov’t Mule and Galactic Blow Away Nebraska in Tour Finale – 8/12/2017 Full Show AUD

Before Gov’t Mule rocked Red Rocks, they finished up their summer tour with longtime friends Galactic in Papillion, Nebraska. This leg of their tour included thirteen dates, most of which included a sit-in from Stanton Moore, Ben Ellman, or other configurations of Galactic members during the Mule set.

On August 18th, the Mule blew it out and had Galactic’s members on stage for nearly half the set. Warren and company opened with a rollicking “Mule” and “Rocking Horse.” The set continued with a mix of older tunes and future classics off Mule’s new album such ads “Stone Cold Rage” with a Bob Marley tease thrown in for good measure.

The night really started to heat up when members of Galactic started to stream on stage for “Sco-Mule.” One of the highlights of the evening was a spectacular cover of the Al Green classic “Take Me to the River” featuring Erica Falls, Jeff Raines, Shamarr Allen, Ben Ellman & Rich Vogel. Ben Ellman stuck around for a nasty “Lay Your Burden Down > Smokestack Lightning > Lay Your Burden Down” before closing the set with “Soulshine” with the addition of Shamarr Allen.

The second highlight of the night came during the encore with a version of “Get Out of My Life Woman” with Stanton Moore, Ben Ellman, Shamarr Allen, Rich Vogel, Jeff Raines, Robert Mercurio & Erica Falls that blew away Nebraska.

First Listen: Eric Krasno & Warren Haynes Crush B.B King and Bob Marley Covers in Jamaica – 1/29/2011 Full Show SBD

With the 2017 Island Exodus 6 months behind us, it was an awesome surprise to stumble upon a fresh recording of this Island Exodus show from 2011 today. Eric Krasno and his band at the time, Chapter 2, played one of the evenings at Gov’t Mule’s Island Exodus back in 2011. The second inaugural Island Exodus featured Gov’t Mule, Warren Haynes solo, Eric Krasno and Chapter 2, Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews and Ron Holloway. All acts can be heard on this smokin Eric Krasno and Chapter 2 set.

Eric Krasno and Chapter 2 includes Louis Cato on bass and Adam Deitch on drums. After the opening “King of the Burbs,” the rest of the set featured special guests on every song.

The absolute highlight of the set is Warren Haynes and Danny Louis sitting in on a full-octane cover of B.B. King’s “The Thrill is Gone.” The Gov’t Mule members stay continue to the jam on “Red Baron > Lively Up Yourself > Red Baron.” Add in some sit-ins from the horn gods Ron Holloway and Trombone Shorty and you have one hell of a set.
