Watch Oteil Burbridge’s Stunning Garcia Piano Set at His Home

While most bands have opted to stream archival shows during the COVID shutdown, a handful of artists have earned some extra credit and released live performances from their homes. Dead and Company bassist Oteil Burbridge went a few steps further and released a set featuring himself on vocals, piano and bass with friends on the guitar.

The short 30 minute set was purely Jerry Garcia tunes like “It Must Have Been the Roses” featuring Eric Krasno and “Brokedown Palace.”

All of the jam scene’s heavy hitters having gotten hip the free streams since venues went dark across the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Dead and Company has started a weekly free stream from their archive on Saturday evenings, aptly titled “One More Saturday Night.”

For the second installment of the series this past weekend, nugnet shared Dead & Co’s second show from Wrigley Field during their 2019 Summer Tour.

The evening was full of treats including a first set “Terrapin Station” opener and a second set “Spanish Jam” opener.

Watch Grateful Dead Deliver a Stellar “High Time” in Buffalo on ’90 Summer Tour

The Grateful Dead have released the latest in their All the Years Live YouTube series. The latest footage comes from 1990’s Summer Tour Orchard Park stop on 7/16/1990.

Towards the end of the first set, the Dead delivered their timeless staple of Workingman’s Dead, “High Time.” Here is what Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux notes about the tune, “High Time was played quite a bit in 1969 and 1970, and was one of the many standouts on Workingman’s Dead in 1970 (OK, all eight songs on the album are standouts!). It was dropped in 1970 until it made its return in 1976, and it was played every year 1976-1995 with the exception of 1978, 1983, and 1989.”

Listen to Dark Star Orchestra Recreate Classic ’76 Dead Show in Boulder – 9/6/2019 AUD

Dark Star Orchestra kicked off a three night run in Colorado on Friday night. The first two shows of the run where in Boulder at the Boulder Theater. Tonight’s finale will be at Red Rocks where they will recreate the Grateful Dead’s Red Rocks show from the same date on 9/8/1983.

On night one of their run, DSO chose a juicy 1976 show to recreate—July 13, 1976 at the Orpheum Theater in San Francisco, CA. The show kicks off with a monster “Mississippi Half-Step” and never stops! DSO throws in a couple of bonus tracks for good measure including “Mr. Charlie” and “Box of Rain.”

Watch Grateful Dead’s Set at Woodstock – 8/16/1969 Video

Woodstock, the music festival that changed the world, is celebrating it’s 50th anniversary this weekend. While the Dead were coming into their own by the summer of ’69, this performance admittedly didn’t showcase the goods.

The story goes that Jerry and the Dead weren’t too keen being filmed. Add to that the fabled rain storm, electrical issues on the stage, a 10:30 PM start and playing while heavily under the influence and you have a pretty forgettable set. Regardless, the footage captures the Dead at a moment in time. Also, the “Dark Star” is pretty solid.

John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater Revival, recently came out and said that the Dead set sabotaged their Woodstock set. CCR came out after the Dead took the wind out of everyone’s sails and had a ho-hum set as a result.
