2018 Full Show Video

Last year, Bob Weir and his Campfire Band, John Mayer plus a super-JGB hit Red Rocks to celebrate Jerry Garcia’s 75th birthday. The mutant Jerry Garcia Band, dubbed the Jerry Garcia Birthday Band had such a good time, that they reunited this August for a pair of shows near the scene of the original crime in Vail, CO.

Most of the original Jerry Garcia Birthday Band reunited for the shows including Melvin Seals on keyboards/vocals, Tom Hamilton on guitar/vocals, Oteil Burbridge on bass/vocals, Duane Trucks on drums, Jackie LaBranch on vocals and Gloria Jones on vocals.

For night one, the Jerry Garcia Birthday Band put together what would pass for a bonafide classic JGB show. After two rip-roaring sets of Jerry tunes, the band came out for the icing on the birthday cake—a masterful version of “Shining Star.”

Instant Classic: Watch John Bell & More Join Tedeschi Trucks Band at Red Rocks-7/30/2017 Full Show AUD

The Wheels of Soul tour is coming to an end, but after you see and listen to Tedeschi Trucks Band’s second Red Rocks show, it’s hard to believe this train can stop. TTB has two more of The Wheels of Soul gigs—Salt Lake City, UT tonight and Missoula, MT tomorrow night.

For night one of two at Red Rocks, TTB welcomed a slew of guests including legendary keyboardist John Medeski. For their second night doubled down on their guests and invited Jack Cassidy and Jorma Kaukonen from Hot Tuna, both Wood Brothers, Mitch Chakour and Widespread Panic’s guitarist and vocalist John Bell. Wow.

It’s cliche to say Derek Trucks was on fire for the show, but he definitely turned it up a notch. I love the moment captured beautifully in this picture by Bill McAlaine Photography. Susan and John look on in awe as Derek does he thing.

Jack Cassidy came out in the front half of the set for “Get Out Of My Life” and then was joined by Jorma for “Sky Is Crying.” A couple of songs later, the Wood Brothers joined Tedeschi Trucks Band for the beautiful rendition of the Rolling Stones’ “Sweet Virginia” that they have been playing throughout the Wheels of Soul tour.

Then things got really interesting when John Bell came out to lend his vocals and guitar on three songs—”Down Along The Cove,” “Dark End” and “Delta Lady.” John’s timeless vocals are a great compliment to TTB.

The Tedeschi Trucks Band finished the night out strong with the Susan and Carey Frank duet “A Song for You,” a cover of the Allman Brothers classic “Statesboro Blues” and a TTB original that is bound for greatness, “Bound for Glory.”

Watch Tedeschi Trucks Band Burn Down the Beacon With “Had To Cry” On First Night of Run

The long anticipated Tedeschi Trucks Band at the Beacon is finally here! Picking up where the Allman Brothers Band has left off, TTB has made a fall run at the Beacon one of their own traditions.

As he has so many times, Derek Trucks set the Beacon ablaze with his incendiary guitar playing. After a 15 song set with plenty of covers and originals, TTB turned to the Blind Faith tune “Had To Cry” to close out the show before they came out for an encore.

Tedeschi and the other band members had plenty of moments to shine through-out the show. “Had to Cry” was Derek’s time once again. The majority of the 12-minute rendition of the song is Derek peakin’ at the Beacon. Watch as he breaks a string and keeps on wailing away on the last 5 strings.

Thanks to Sean Roche for the awesome footage!

Here are some other performances from the night thanks to Sean.
