Gov’t Mule kicked off their annual New Year’s Eve run at the Beacon Theater last night in NYC. The tradition has morphed over the years to be more of an East Coast run, but the final shows always end at the Beacon.
This year’s run didn’t have a theme like in year’s past, but last night’s show was chock full of guests and covers. A couple of the guests included Shawn Pelton, Oz Noy, Jeff Babcock, Lincoln Schleifer, Jimmy Vivino, Carmine Appice, Paul Ill and the Better Half Singers featuring Machan Taylor, Mini Carlsson & Elaine Caswell.
Among the doozies that the Mule dropped on the Beacon last night included a “Wish You Were Here” encore with Shawn Pelton & The Better Half Singers and a “Little Martha” tease and “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed” with Shawn Pelton & Jimmy Vivino.

eTown is a non-profit organization out of Boulder, CO with a mission to educate, entertain and inspire a diverse audience through live performances. eTown puts out webisodes every so often from some of today’s most exciting musicians and ends the session with a collaboration. This past webisode brought new-grass all-stars Greensky Bluegrass and country singer Elizabeth together along with eTown hosts Nick and Helen Forster.
Greensky and Cook performed their tunes on eTown Hall’s solar-powered stage located in Boulder. The final performance of the webisode was a rocking rendition of Traffic’s “Feelin’ Alright.” The classic rock tune, was popularized by Joe Cocker in 1969, but was written by Dave Mason and Traffic a year earlier.
The performance features smokin’ guitar, mandolin and lap-steel guitar work from Greensky Bluegrass and an unexpected freestyle from Xiuhtezcatl Martinez, a 16-year old climate activist who was on the show as well.
Thanks to eTown for continuing to do amazing work, sharing ideas and making the world a little bit of a better informed place. And oh yea, for sharing awesome live performances!
