Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds just wrapped up a three-night getaway in breezy, beautiful Mexico. The duo is warming up for a massive spring tour that spans both sides of the Atlantic later this March.
The intimate three-night stand kicked off on Thursday with a 22-song set spanning decades of DMB albums, Tim Reynolds originals, covers and plenty of classic Dave Matthews banter. The fans that made the pilgrimage to Riviera Maya were treated to the live debut of a beautiful Hazel Dickens cover—”Pretty Bird.”
If you haven’t heard of Hazel Dickens, don’t worry—I had to look her up too. Hazel was a bluegrass multi-instrumentalist who passed away in 2011. The West Virginia native was an activist that wrote and performed pro-union and feminist tunes. Read more about Hazel Dickens.
According to the DMBAlmanac, Dave sings an extra verse at the beginning of the song that is not in the original version; it’s unclear if he added it himself or if it’s from an alternate version of the song.
