How about that time that Neil Young joined Led Zeppelin for an epic version of When the Levee Breaks? Yea, not sure how this one slipped by me either.
Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, and Jason Bonham (John Bonham’s son) were joined by Neil Young for the final song of their three-song set at the 1995 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductions ceremony. The raw, muddy at times, rendition of “When the Levee Breaks” is loud and glorious. As a hat tip to Neil Young, the song transitions into the Buffalo Springfield classic “For What It’s Worth.”
Neil Young recalls the performance as thrilling in his biography and reveals that he was inspired to do a full album with Zeppelin, which unfortunately never materialized. You can see Young come to life on stage with Zeppelin and although he shares legendary, hall of fame status with the band, it’s as if he’s humbled and giddy at the opportunity to play with them.
The inductions ceremony was held in NYC, 9 months before the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio opened up in September of 1995.
