While most of the action was happening at LOCKN’ last weekend, Allman Brothers Band and Dead and Company bassist Oteil Burbridge was celebrating his 53rd birthday at Nedfest in Nederland, CO.
Oteil recently announced that he would be hitting the road this fall with a killer lineup including JGB keyboardist Melvin Seals, Lettuce/Soulive guitarist Eric Krasno, Further guitarist John Kadlecik, Primus/RatDog/Electric Beethoven drummer Jay Lane, former Nth Power and current Trombone Shorty percussionist Weedie Braimah, and vocalist Alfreda Gerald.
For his birthday bash, Oteil was joined by a lot of the characters he will be joined by this fall including:
Melvin Seals – Keys
John Kadlecik – Guitar, Vocals
Ian Neville – Guitar
Jay Lane – Drums
Lyle Divinsky – Vocals
Alfreda Gerald – Vocals
Weedie Braimah – Percussion
Natalie Cressman – Trombone, Vocals
Jennifer Hartswick – Trumpet, Vocals
Flush with connections to the Grateful Dead, it should come as no surprise that Oteil and Friends played plenty of Dead and Jerry Garcia Band tunes. Throw in covers by The Band, Bob Marley and Bob Dylan and you have a hell of a show.
Happy birthday, Oteil!
