Bob Weir along with fellow Grateful Dead founding member Billy Kreutzmann rang in the new year on the North Shore on Kauai. While there were plenty of shows to choose from the on the East Coast on NYE, hanging with Bob Weir and an incredible cast of musicians in Hawaii sounds pretty tempting.
Dubbed as the Rising Up to Paradise Band, the show was part benefit concert, part new year celebration. Bobby and Billy traveled to Hawaii with a great line-up including Jeff Chimenti on keyboards and Hammond B-3, Wally Ingram on drums, Steve Kimock on lead guitar and Robin Sylvester on electric bass and vocals . Taj Mahal, George Porter Jr. and Don Was sat-in with band throughout the evening.
The band played an awesome set that extended past the NYE countdown. Bobby and the Rising Up To Paradise band played “Eyes of the World” into the New Year and ended the evening with a “Ripple” encore—what could be a better way to ring in the new year?
