Watch Billy and Kids’ Acoustic Encore Back at Kreutzmann’s House

After three blazing shows from Billy and the Kids, the gang all headed inside for a relaxed second encore to cap off the run.

Trading their electric instruments for acoustic ones, Billy and the Kids plus Billy Strings all did beautiful, intimate versions of “Ripple” and “To Lay Me Down” among other tunes.

Watch Santana Shred with Billy and the Kids on “Scarlet Begonia’s” in Hawaii

Billy and the Kids returned to the beaches of Kauai for the final show of their three show run yesterday. As promised earlier in the week, guitar legend Carlos Santana joined the already stacked line-up for the evening.

To kick off the show, Santana showed his chops on the Grateful Dead classic “Scarlet Begonias.” The jam segued into a rockin’ version of “Iko Iko.” Caution: this jam is HOT.

Watch Billy and Kids Jam on Dylan and “China Cat Sunflower” in Hawaii

Billy Kreutzmann’s band, Billy and the Kids returned to the shores of Kauai for their second show of the three show birthday celebration for Kreutzmann. Billy, who turned 75 years young on Friday, gathered his band with the special addition of Billy Strings.

Yesterday’s gig started off with a blistering “China Cat Sunflower.” Instead of the normal jam into “I Know You Rider,” Billy lead the jam into “Thunder,” a tune written by Robert Hunter and Billy.

The second set kicked off with a cover of Dylan’s “Tangled Up in Blue.”

Watch Billy and the Kids Celebrate Billy Kreutzmann’s 75th Birthday in Hawaii

Following Bob Weir and Phil Lesh’s return to the stage, Grateful Dead drummer Billy Kreutzmann kicked off a three show livestream run yesterday. Dubbed Grateful Mahalo, the three shows mark Billy’s 75th trip around the sun.

Billy’s line-up for the run includes Tom Hamilton, Aron Magner and Reed Mathis with special guest Billy Strings. A few days ago, Billy teased that the run would also include special guests with a picture of legendary guitarist Carlos Santana.

The three show run is available for purchase on fans.com, but the first couple of songs of each set was previewed on Relix’s YouTube channel. The band is set up near a pristine and picture perfect beach in Kauai, Hawaii. While this is the first go round for this particular line-up, the band sounds phenomenal and Billy looks as if the last year off from the road has done him well.
