After a year hiatus, Soulive’s Bowlive made it’s glorious return to the Brooklyn Bowl for a seventh year. The run of shows included numerous guests such as John Scofield and Marcus King. For the Bowlive VII finale, Eric Krasno and Soulive welcomed George Porter Jr., founding member of The Meters and Marcus King to share the stage for most of the evening. In addition to Porter and King, The Shady Horns featuring Eric “Benny” Bloom on trumpet and Ryan Zoidis on sax joined the band for much of the show.
Soulive and company laid it all out on stage for the final Bowlive performance of 2017. The two sets and encore clocked in at almost three hours!
Marcus King dominated the first set with a terrific cover of Blind Faith’s “Had to Cry Today” and a spellbinding tribute to Gregg Allman with “Whipping Post.” George Porter Jr. came out at the end of the set to sit in on a fitting cover of “A Message from the Meters.”
Porter Jr. and King sat in for the entire second set which was punctuated with a 20 minute cover of “Sugaree” with some other tunes mixed in for good measure.
The all-star crew came out for one final The Meters tune at the encore, “Just Kissed My Baby.”
What a way to end the Bowlive run!
