Fun fact about the song California Stars: the lyrics were actually written by Woody Guthrie but he never put music to them. Woody Guthrie’s daughter Nora approached Billy Bragg with the lyrics and asked him to record California Stars among other unfinished Guthrie songs. Billy Bragg teamed up with Natalie Merchant and Wilco to create Mermaid Avenue in 1998 which went on to garner a Grammy nomination.
