The Wheels of Soul tour, which kicked off earlier this month, rolled into Vienna, Virginia—just outside of Washington D.C. After taking off July 4th, Tedeschi Trucks Band had a fireworks show of their own last night at Wolf Trap. Wheels of Soul brothers-in-arms Hot Tuna and The Wood Brothers also contributed to the magical TTB set last night.
Filling in for Kofi Burbridge who suffered a major heart attack a couple of weeks back and had to undergo heart surgery, was Carey Frank. Not only has Carey done a fine job filling in for Kofi, but he performed a beautiful duet with Susan on the first encore of the evening—”A Song For You.”
Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady of Hot Tuna lent a hand on the blues classic “Key to the Highway” and The Wood Brothers sat in for the final encore “You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere.” TTB also treated Vienna to a little Allman Brothers Band with “Whipping Post” emerging out of “The Storm.”
Thanks to Alex Leary for the great recording. In addition to the full show audio, we have some great footage of the show thanks to our friend Tom Libera.
