Derek Trucks can’t keep away from the Beacon. While the Allman Brothers Band may have officially hung it up and thus ended their Beacon Theater runs every spring, The Tedeschi Trucks Band has started a tradition of performing at the historic Upper West Side theater in the fall. A few years ago, TTB welcomed founding Allman Brothers Band member and guitar legend, Dickey Betts to the stage for the classic ABB tune “Blue Sky.”
Watch Betts show that he’s still got it after nearly 50 years of founding one of the best rock bands in history. The song starts with a Franklin’s Tower tease and then plows into a soaring Blue Sky. While I’m partial to Warren playing Blue Sky, Dickey Betts is hard to top.
Dickey sat in with TTB for “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed” and “The Sky is Crying” in addition to Blue Sky. Check out the full set list.
